There are five Pou which combine to create Te Whare Kaawhakaoro:-

Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Wairua

Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Tangata

These are the five Pou belonging to Wharekura o Rangi Tamaku a Nuku Te Aio –the house of the eleventh heaven from which Taane and his brothers copied the design for Wharekura a Papatuuaanuku-.

Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Maarama deals with the cosmogony of the physical world.

Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Atua deals with the cosmogony of the gods.

Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Hinengaro deals with the cosmogony of consciousness.

Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Wairua deals with the cosmogony of spirt.

Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Tangata deals with the cosmogony of humankind.

In the sequence above the first ten Poo –0-9– are considered Quantum fluctuations inflating to a point of Te Poo o Te Kore Te Tamua.

Te Poo o Te Kore Rawea in becoming bound by a ‘ring pass-not’ created the original fertile state from which the flash point of creation within Te Poo o Te Kore Te Tamua gave rise to Te Poo o Te Kore te Matua wherein ‘The Parentless One‘ Io Matua Kore came into being.

Wharekura o  Rangi Tamaku a Nuku Te Aio

Following on from Te Poo o Te Kore te Matua five Poo of darkness existed which carried within them the seed of light as eventually birthed by Te Poo o Hine Maakaa Moe –the mother of light-.

It is Hine Maaka Moe whom is the wife of Io Tamauatake and it is from their union that the way of Io me Oi became Knowable.

Now followed three Poo of light in expansion and growth which lead to the creation of space –Whai Tua –.

Within the expanse of space two elements Te Mangu Maakuu me Mahoranui Aa Rangi existed and eventually unified to create two further elementals known as Ranginui me Papatuuaanuku.

It was from the further combination of Ranginui me Papatuuaanuku that Ngaa Atua came into existence and it is from Ngaa Atua that Whakapapa Maaori comes into being.

Now it is within Te Poo o Te Kore te Tamua that the creative essence Io Matua Kore came into existence eventually evolving into the consciousness state of Io Nui within Te Poo o Te Kore te Matua.

As Te Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Maarama evolved so too did the conscious and creative essences of Io Nui and in Te Poo o Hine Maaka Moe, the creative essences of Io Tamauatake unified with the creative state known as Hine Maaka Moe giving rise to the new Quantum Conscious state of Te Poo Te Ata.

It is from the continuous and evolving unification of these creative conscious essences that all life proceeds from Te Poo Te Ata through the creative conscious states of Io Te Toi Oo Ngaa Rangi me Oi Te Toi Oo Ngaa Rangi.

Within Te Poo te Kore te Tamaua the first four aspects of Hinengaro sprang simultaneously into existence.

These four aspects of Hinengaro are dual in nature and being.

They each contain within them Te Ahi Tapu Wahine me Te Ahi Tapu Taane;

At first all Hinengaro was chaotically combined and remained so until the process of Moohiotanga Aaritarita became present.

Moohiotanga Aaritarita is the threefold process of understanding the self within the self’s external environments and then that understandings relationship within the greater geo-dimensional positioning of the self.

‘Know the Moment, Know the Cause, Know Where You Are.’

Once this knowing was obtained then conscious growth and development rapidly evolved eventually culminating in the creation of the first two fully separated conscious entities known as Ranginui and Papatuuaanuku.

The final result from the evolution of Moohiotanga Aaritarita was the creation of Te Ahi Tapu Wahine me Te Ahi Tapu Taane.

From these two newly formed and separated Ahi Tapu Wahine me Taane came Te Mangu Maakuu and Mahoranui Aa Rangi whom begat Toko Mua, Toko Roto and Toko Pa –First of Ngaa Atua-.

After a period of time Te Mangu Maakuu interacted with the evolving conscious process of Io Nui me Oi Nui within Whai Tua and thus was created the first two celestial twins Ranginui and Papatuuaanuku from whom all Whakapapa Maaori descend. 


Te Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Wairua

Te Ao Wairua is the creative medium from which the consciousness of Io Matua Kore came into existence within Te Poo Te Kore te Tamaua.

The bounding of Te Poo Te Kore Rawea resulted in Te Poo Te Kore te Tamaua becoming infused with Mauri Ora which in turn created the Wairua medium from which the consciousness of Io Matua Kore became invested and grew.

It is by the medium of Te Ao Wairua that Io Nui me Oi Nui evolved eventually investing Te Ao Wairua with Te Ahi Tapu thus creating all life.

Te Pou Whakapapa Te Ao Tangata

All things have their being through fire and water.

Water without land and fire is dead.

Fire without water and land is dead.

These things combined -water, earth, fire- give life to land and each other and all things that grow and live and have their own form, whether trees, rocks, birds, reptiles, fish, animals or human.

It is these three things that give life to them all.

It is the same with the sun and the moon and the stars.

They are worlds; earth, water and fire give them their form and the same actuate all things.

The air is the compliment of all these things.

It is this that continues or holds the life of things.

If there were the earth, the ocean, fire or air alone, nothing would have life.

It is through the earth, water, fire and air combined that all things have life.

This is the same with Rangituhaha -whole of the heavens- including Toi Oo Ngaa Rangi; each has its own form of everything within them, with their own form of life suited to each.

The earth has its own form of life as has water, fire, trees, rocks; all plants of every description have their own form of life.

Whatever there is in this world, or in Rangituhaha, all have the same.

Everything that has so been mentioned has a Wairua Tinana of its own similar to itself, each one has Mauri invested with Te Ahi Tapu.

Io te Waananga is the origin of these things.

These are the things that Io Mata Ngaro retained to the self; the spirit, the life and the form; it is by these that all things have form according to their kind.

There is nothing made by Io Nui that has not an end, everything has a termination.

Whether it be by drought, burning by fire, injury by the sun, or the moon, excepting always those forms that Io Nui decrees should not have an end in this world or other worlds.

Timatatanga Te Ao Whanui

Part one

From conception the increase

From the increase the swelling

From the swelling the thought

From the thought remembrance

From the remembrance the consciousness, the desire

The world became fruitful:

It dwelt with the feeble glimmering

It brought forth the night

The great night, the long night, the lowest night

The thick night, the night to be felt, the night to be touched

The night unseen, the night following on, the night ending in death:

From the nothing the begetting

From the nothing the increase

From the nothing the abundance

The power of increasing the living breath:

It dwelt within the empty space

It produced the atmosphere which is above us

The atmosphere which floats upon the earth

The great firmament above us

The spread-out place dwelt with the glowing dawn

Forthwith was produced the sun:

They were thrown up above as the chief eyes of heaven

The early dawn, the early day, the midday

The blaze of day from the sky

The sky which floats above the earth

Dwelt with Hawaiiki:

Part Two

Io within the breathing space of immensity

The universe was in darkness with water every where

There was no glimmer of dawn

No clearness of light

And Io begun by saying these words

That Io may cease to remain inactive

“Darkness! Become a light possessing darkness”

And at once the light appeared

Io then repeated these self-same words in this manner

“Light become a darkness possessing light”

And again an intense darkness supervened

And a third time Io spoke

“Let there be one darkness above

Let there be one darkness below Alternate!”

“Let there be a darkness unto Tupua

Let there be a darkness unto Tawhito

It is a darkness overcome and dispelled”

And a fourth time Io spoke

“Let there be one light above

Let there be one light below

Alternate!”

Let there be a light unto Tupua

Let there be a light unto Tawhito a domain of bright light”

And now a great light prevailed

Io then looked to the waters which compassed about

And Io spoke a fifth time

“Waters of Tai Kaama be ye separate!”

Heaven being formed the sky became suspended

And at once the moving earth lay abroad:

Part Three

The waters of the oceans that are in the world

Were created by waters

And then grew the land

The earth taken upon maturity to wife by the sky father

Next the minor vegetation

Growing each after its own kind

Next the animals and dogs of every species

Next the birds of different kind

Next the moon the sun and all the stars

Next Hine Ahu One and Hine Titama

By these all from the very first down to the creation of woman, mentioned each in its own period, growing up in their own time, increasing in their own periods, each conceived after their own manner and time of whatsoever nature, each had its own conception or sprouting.

We now understand that this is the nature of all things and each thing has its female through which it conceives; whatsoever there is has a wife; there is nothing that stands alone without its female.

All things have their female counterparts:

Part Four

There is a creative principle

Which is itself uncreated

There is a principle of change

Which is itself unchanging

Te Kore is able to create life

Te Kore is able to effect change

That which is produced cannot but continue producing

That which evolved cannot but continue to evolving

Hence there is constant production and constant evolution

The law of constant evolution at no time ceases to operate

That which is once involved in the destiny of living things

Can never be annihilated

So it is with Io and Oi

So it is with the four seasons

Io and Oi are the positive and negative

Principles of nature alternating

Predominating in day and night

Khwan and Khien

Yang and Yin

Te Kore we may surmise to be alone in it self

The supreme

The non-engendered

How can it really be proved

We can only suppose that it is mysteriously one

Without beginning and without end

Te Kore goes to and fro and its range is illimitable

We may surmise that it stands alone

And that its ways are inexhaustible

The spirit of the valley dies not

It may be called the mysterious feminine

The issuing point of the mysterious feminine

Must be regarded as the root of the universe

Subsisting to all eternity

It uses its force without effort

That then which engenders all things is itself engendered

That by which all things evolve

Is itself untouched by evolution

Self-engendered and self-evolving it has in itself

The elements of substance, appearance, wisdom

Strength, dispersion and cessation

Yet it would be a mistake to call it by anyone of these names:

Part Five

The ancestors regarded Io and Oi as controlling the sum total of heaven and earth.

That which has substance is engendered from that which is devoid of substance.

Out of which then were heaven and earth engendered?

They were engendered from Te Kore and came into existence of themselves.

There is a great principle of change, a great origin, a great beginning, a great primordial simplicity.

In the great origin lies the beginning of substance.

In the great beginning lies the beginning of material form.

After the separation of Io and Oi, classes of objects assume their forms.

In the great simplicity lies the beginning of essential qualities.

When substance, form, and essential qualities are still indistinguishably blended together it is called Ngaro.

Ngaro means that all things are chaotically intermixed and not yet separated from one another.

The purer and lighter elements tending upwards made the heavens.

The grosser and heavier elements tending downwards made the earth.

Substance harmoniously proportioned became humanity.

And heaven and earth containing thus a spiritual element, things were evolved and produced.
